World of Tanks, the massively multiplayer online tank battle game from developer Wargaming.net, has attracted 40 million registered users worldwide, according to an announcement on the game's website.

Though the number of users registered doesn't necessarily correlate to the number of active users, Wargaming.net also announced that it had recently set a PCCU (peak concurrent user) record when over 500,000 players battled on a single server in Russia.

Last week, Wargaming.net released the 8.0 update for World of Tanks, which brought improvements to physics, lighting, and the game's user interface.
