Super Mario 64 modded to include co-op mode
Sixteen years after its initial release, Super Mario 64 now includes a co-op mode featuring two Mario characters thanks to the modding efforts of modder Skelux.
The mod is currently available for download from the project's website; However, those interested can only play the game on PC through an emulator. Skelux also created Super Mario Star Road in addition to the co-op offering, described as a Super Mario 64 hack featuring "all new levels, over 120 stars, and all new music."
Super Mario 64 was first released in 1996. In 2004, an enhanced remake of the title was developed for Nintendo DS which included touchscreen mini-games and a multiplayer mode.
Correction: The new co-op character is an additional Mario, he was initially misidentified in this story.
