Wii U gets YouTube app

A free YouTube app is now available for Wii U, YouTube announced recently.

YouTube is the last of the four streaming video content partnerships Nintendo promised for Wii U back at E3 in June, along with Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video. Netflix was available in time for the console's North American launch on Nov. 18, while the other two services arrived shortly afterward.

The Wii U app supports 1080p video on your TV, and allows you to peruse information about a currently playing video on the GamePad. In addition, the GamePad can be used to search for videos and browse your YouTube channel subscriptions. Since we haven't been able to test out the app ourselves yet, we're not sure if you can also watch videos on the GamePad itself.

Nintendo previously delayed Nintendo TVii, a programming guide that integrates with video-on-demand and cable television services, until December.
