Valve's Gabe Newell gets a 50th birthday present from 4chan
Valve co-founder and managing director Gabe Newell celebrated his 50th birthday last week, and users of the video game board on the website 4chan, /v/, visited the company's offices to present him with a card and gift.
The poster-size card, an annual tradition, featured messages from thousands of /v/ users. Their gift wasn't as simple as opening the package they gave him — Newell had to pay $2.50 for a key. Once he did, he gained access to the present inside: a hat of sorts, a helmet resembling the one worn by the Soldier class in Team Fortress 2. (The gag gift was a reference to the free-to-play title's virtual economy for cosmetic in-game items.)
