A video interview with the designer of Injustice: Gods Among Us.
John Edwards, Lead Designer at NetherRealm, the creators of the recent Mortal Kombat reboot, said the studio's upcoming DC Comics superhero fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, won't include decapitations or disembowelment.
"There's a place for Mortal Kombat," said Edwards, "and there's a place for this, also."
Injustice includes a bit more comic book goofiness than its viscera-stewed predecessor. Harley Quinn, for example, has a special move that involves placing an explosive pie between the legs of her combatant. While in the Fortress of Solitude, fighters can be knocked into the Phantom Zone.
"My favorite move," said Edwards, "is Superman's super, even though it's not necessarily violent. Knocking someone into space, that's pretty out there."
In our video interview at E3, we spoke to Edwards about potential Injustice comic book tie-ins, potential cameos, and how the superheroes are a little different from the characters the audience may be familiar with. The designer also digs into the tone of the game, which is more gritty and grounded. Minus the pies and whatnot.
We had a chance to play Injustice at the conference, and though the title baffled us, the fighting showed promise. I mean, it's Superman vs. Batman. Can't we all agree that's the perfect title?
