Publisher Chillingo is bringing the discovery-based city builder Pixel People to the App Store on Jan. 31, the company announced.

The upcoming iOS title, which is in development from LambdaMu, tasks players with populating a planet using the recycled genetic code of the human race. Players can create 150 of these Pixel People, as well as 80 animals, all designed in an 8-bit style. In order to rebuild society, users must mix, or splice, character types to create new classes of characters to put to use. For example, by combining a city planner with a mechanic, this results in an engineer.
