Microsoft sells 76 million Xbox 360 consoles, 24 million Kinect sensors
To date, more than 76 million Xbox 360 consoles and 24 million Kinect sensors have been sold worldwide, according to an update from Microsoft's Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of the company's Interactive Entertainment Business.
Kinect's install base to date means sales of the camera-based controller rival those of the original Xbox console. Kinect originally launched in November 2010.
Microsoft says it now has 46 million Xbox Live members, up 15 percent from the year prior. The company also boasts "entertainment app usage" has grown 57 percent year-over-year worldwide, which adds some perspective to the announcement of Xbox Entertainment Studios.
The Xbox 360 first launched on Nov. 16, 2005 in North America. Microsoft claims the console has been the number one selling console in the United States for 24 consecutive months.
