Awakened developer releases Unreal Engine 4 tech demo as Kickstarter clock ticks down

Awakened developer Phosphor Games released an Unreal Engine 4 tech demo from the game yesterday, with the project's Kickstarter campaign nearing its end.

The tech demo shows off Phosphor's concepts for Awakened in three segments. The first focuses on the biology of superpowers; the second illustrates the in-game appearance of those abilities, as built in Unreal Engine 4; and the third features pieces of clothing and accessories for the outfits in Awakened's create-your-own-superhero mode.

But Awakened's success on Kickstarter seems unlikely at this point: The campaign ends in less than five days, at 10:40 a.m ET on March 6, and Phosphor needs to pull in nearly $288,000 — more than 57 percent of of its $500,000 goal — by then.

Phosphor launched Awakened's Kickstarter drive in early February, and previously released a video showing off the game's modding capabilities. The studio bills Awakened as an open-world superhero sim, and is building the game in Unreal Engine 4.
