Jagex Games Studio will release free-to-play massively multiplayer online strategy game RuneScape 3 this summer, executive producer Phil Mansell announced during a behind-the-scenes video.
"RuneScape 3's a big upgrade to the game, building on 12 years of amazing content," Mansell said. "It's a significant improvement on all fronts.
Players will not need to create new accounts and can use the same avatar as in previous titles. According to Mansell, the game's client has been rewritten using HTML5 and web GL, which will allow RuneScape 3 to run faster and look better. Players who prefer to stick with Java, however, can do so as well.
"We want to give a lot more control to the players," Mansell said. "We've made the interfaces fully customizable, we've upgraded the cameras so it's a lot more flexible."
RuneScape 3 will also feature an orchestrated score and new community website. Check out the video above for a first look at the game. More details are expected in the coming weeks.
