Defense Grid 2, the successfully crowdfunded sequel to Hidden Path Entertainment's strategy/tower defense game Defense Grid: The Awakening, will launch for Windows PC, Mac and Linux in the first half of 2014, the developer announced today.
According to a statement from Hidden Path, the game's community helped catch the eye of an unnamed investor, under which the game is "successfully being developed."
"Through the DG2 Kickstarter campaign we were able to not only raise money and make more Defense Grid content, but we created a shared engagement around the project with thousands of backers for several months," said CEO Jeff Pobst in a press statement. "The excitement, involvement, and passion that the community displayed around Defense Grid directly helped us engage an investment partner and make DG2 a reality."
In Defense Grid 2, players will be tasked to protect the power cores of their military bases, which will feature a mix of both familiar and new locations as well as new enemy alien types. The game will also include competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes and will support player-created content.
Hidden Path wants to ensure players have a "voice" in the game's development, and will continue to listen to suggestions posted on the developer's official forums.
