Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 trailer examines Dracula's gameplay

A new Gamescom trailer for Konami's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 examines the skills of the fallen hero Dracula.

Dracula will have to regain his former skills and weaponry over the course of the game, as they have been stripped from him along with control of his castle. The trailer demonstrates the Void Sword, a weapon that allows Dracula to regain life points whenever he deals damage. To properly utilize the sword, the player must build Focus by landing consecutive attacks without taking damage, and then absorb orbs of blood that Dracula's attacks knock out of enemies when he is fully Focused.

The trailer also shows abilities like the Sync Block, which stuns enemies but requires precise timing, and some of the various tools that Dracula has to traverse his environment. In classic "Metroidvania" style, unlocking new tools and abilities will allow Dracula entry to previously-inaccessible pathways and encounters.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 hits Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next February.
