Apple this morning released its Best of 2014 list on iTunes, naming Threes! the iPhone game of the year and Monument Valley the iPad game of the year.
"Thank you to Apple for this tremendous honour," Monument Valley developers UsTwoGames wrote on its official blog. "It's been a fantastic year for mobile games."
On the iTunes list of winners, Apple wrote this about Monument Valley:
"An enchanting blend of Escher-inspired perspective puzzles and beautiful minimalist style, this genre-defining effort wows at every turn. Its clever challenges and hidden depth left us in perpetual state of awe."
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, which won best handheld/mobile game during Friday's Game Awards, was listed as runner-up for the category.
Apple described Threes!, best iPhone game of 2014, as "one of the finest number puzzlers we've ever played, this little game is big on charm and clever concepts. Immensely thoughtful design makes Threes! instantly appealing and nearly impossible to put down."
Leo's Fortune was named runner-up for iPhone game of the year.
