It looks like the gray market for the hard-to-come-by PlayStation 4 Anniversary Edition may be bottoming out on eBay. While there are still plenty of the consoles ringing in for thousands of dollars (the confirmed record is more than $15,000), nearly a hundred other auctions closed without a sale as of this morning.
And one of the prized consoles sold for $1. Though it looks as if the seller, medman6107, screwed up their listing and canceled the auction after receiving a single bid. eBay has a lot of rules in place to prevent this sort of thing from happening, but ultimately it's up to the seller to actually ship the sold item. medman6107 has a 257 rating and only one negative review since 2005.
The second lowest sale price I could find for the console was $500, but that was just for a picture of the console. The lowest the actual console sold for on eBay so far was $830. The highest currently active auction with bids for the console is $10,000, with many more items with bids listing in the the thousands.
The special edition of the PlayStation 4, which was announced last week, was designed to look like the original, gray PlayStation and comes with a matching controller. Only 12,300 of the special edition consoles are being produced globally.
In Spain, 350 of the consoles are being auctioned off with all proceeds going to non-profits UNICEF and Juegaterapia. In the United States, the consoles were put up for sale Saturday for $499.99 at the Sony online store with an estimated ship date of Dec. 21. The Sony store struggled to keep up the traffic that hit the site when the systems were made available.
