The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will refine the web-swinging mechanics of its 2012 predecessor, and a video from developer Beenox released today shows the dual-triggered mechanics in action.
Spidey's new mobility is based on the idea that players can control both sides of the red-and-blue superhero's body, according to creative director Thomas Wilson. The webs now attach to objects in the environment, so shooting from your left or right hand will make contextual sense as players traverse New York.
"The new mechanics of web-swinging are more than just a visual tick, and that's why we often start off pointing them out," Wilson wrote in a post accompanying the video on the PlayStation Blog. "Controlling separate sides of Spider-Man with separate sides of your brain has a great psychological effect, and it really immerses you even deeper into your character, particularly when you have to decide to use the right or left trigger based on the physical location of buildings as you swing through the city."
New York's resident crime fighter will also be equipped with a cell phone that serves as the game's map and menu as well as the player's progress indicator. Press play above to see the PlayStation 4 version of the game, including some footage of Spidey as mild-mannered Peter Parker, who players will also control.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for an April 29 release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and Windows PC.
