Atari, the household name of 1970s and 1980s video gaming that emerged from bankruptcy proceedings late last year, has signed on with a developer of mobile and Facebook games to deliver Atari Casino, a suite of games involving many familiar names.
Atari Casino will be produced by FlowPlay, and the game will be based on Vegas World, a FlowPlay game that includes MMORPG elements in a virtual world comprising casinos, nightclubs, swimming pools and other entertainment. Atari Casino will replicate that while using games it owns, such as Missile Command, Centipede and Asteroids.
"We see partnering with FlowPlay and entering the social casino market as a natural progression for us," said Atari CEO Fred Chesnais. "As we move beyond gaming, taking advantage of such a rapidly growing industry that aligns well with our core business is important."
Atari filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2013, and in December arrived at a plan to repay its creditors, all of whom supported the reorganization.
