Why are publishers announcing big games before E3?

Even with E3 just around the corner it seems like everyone has already made their big announcements that would normally be saved for an E3 press conference.

We now not only know that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 4, and Halo 5: Guardians are coming out, but we also already know their release dates. So why are we finding out all of this now and not at E3?

If this is your first episode, Friends List is a daily web series where we have one-on-one talks about a single question related to video games. The goal is to give Polygon's many team members across the globe and those involved in covering, designing and releasing games, an opportunity to speak with you.

Today on Friends List, Reporter Samit Sarkar and Editor-in-Chief Chris Grant ask: Why are publishers announcing big games before E3?
