Supernatural murder mystery Murdered: Soul Suspect goes beyond allowing its specter hero to possess and control people — player-controlled Ronan can inhabit and manipulate the bodies of cats, too.
Announced in February last year, Murdered follows the ghost of detective Ronan O'Connor as he attempts to solve his own murder and stop a serial killer, The Bell Killer. Aided by a young woman who can see and talk to spirits, Ronan must use every ghostie power at his disposal to stop this criminal before too many people die, all the while combating other supernatural creatures that want to snack on his soul.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Square Enix community manager Lee Williams notes that humans aren't the only creatures weak to Ronan's ghostly charms — while he specially mentions cats, it's unclear whether other critters can be possessed as well. Ronan can also walk through walls, teleport and instigate poltergeist activity, and according to Williams there's a handful of abilities that have yet to be introduced.
In addition to taking down the Bell Killer, Ronan must help wandering spirits who are lost in the Dusk, the limbo-like world of ghosts who haven't crossed over. Side quests involving helping these spirits resolve unfinished conflicts from their lives in order to help them move on to the afterlife.
Murdered: Soul Suspect will launch on June 3 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Check out the trailer above for a look at some of Ronan's powers in action.
