Survey hints at Harmonix getting the (Rock) Band back together
Harmonix is asking gamers how excited they'd be for a return of Rock Band to the current console generation — PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox One — in a survey that furthers the impression the rhythm game pioneers are serious about getting the Band back together.
The survey doesn't give up any specific ideas Harmonix may have; it asks them how often they continue to play the legacy game, how many peripherals they still own, and the platform on which they play. Taken alongside recent remarks by Harmonix chief creative officer Alex Rigopulos, it sounds like they're eyeballing the PS4, Wii U and Xbox One.
In June, Rigopulos told GamesBeat that Harmonix views the Rock Band franchise as "something we'll return to at the right point in time, and reimagine it as appropriate for its time." Earlier this month, he told GamesReactor that Rock Band, with peripherals, on the newest consoles was a possibility. "We think about it all the time because we love Rock Band, and we're waiting for just the right moment in the new generation of consoles to bring it back."
Harmonix will bring its Dance Central series to Xbox One this September with Dance Central: Spotlight, but it has not published a Rock Band game since 2012's Rock Band Blitz for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. That game, however, uses the consoles standard gamepad. The last Rock Band title to use instrument peripherals was 2010's Rock Band 3.
