Imperial City, the first extension for The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, will arrive at the end of August on PC and in the middle of September for consoles, putting gamers in the capital of the realm, under the control of the diabolical Molag Bal.
Bethesda Softworks promises the expansion will add hours of gameplay to the MMO, as players wend their way through a new storyline quest and fight it out in six new areas against NPCs and one another.
The extension launches Aug. 31 on Windows PC and Mac, Sept. 15 on Xbox One and Sept. 16 on PlayStation 4. It is free for anyone with an active Elder Scrolls Online Plus membership, or for $20 (in in-game currency) on its own.
The Elder Scrolls Online converted from a subscription model to a pay-once model in March, delivering the entirety of the basic game for $59.99 to new players. "ESO Plus" is a premium membership, at $14.99 per month, that entitles subscribers to all content offered in the game.
Imperial City, the capital of the Cyrodillic empire, has fallen to the Daedric prince Molag Bal. In addition to the six districts of the city, players can explore a network of sewers underneath the city, finding PvP and PvE challenges there. Imperial City also introduces a new in-game currency, "Tel Var Stones," that can be used to acquire weapons and armor available to players of an advanced rank.
