Hold the phone: Commodore gaming is back
If you hanker for the glory days of the Commodore 64 and Amiga gaming, and you're in the market for a pretty good Android phone, this product might be for you.
The Commodore Pet is a mobile phone that's being launched next week in Italy, Poland, France and Germany. It's branded with the hallowed Commodore logo and will come with C64 and Amiga emulation capabilities. The phone's Italian manufacturer Commodore Business Machines Limited bought global mobile rights for the Commodore name and is seeking to bring classic C64 and Amiga games to the phone.
Back in the 1980s and early 1990s, the C64 and Amiga were hugely successful home computers spawning many classic games.
The Commodore Pet is named after an even earlier computer. Commodore was ultimately bested by home PCs and games consoles, but the name still holds some nostalgic value. No news yet on U.S. plans for the phone.
