Benicio del Toro has been approached to play the villain in Star Wars: Episode VIII , The Wrap reports, citing 'multiple individuals familiar with casting process.'
The process of casting del Toro is in the 'very early stages,' according to the publication.
The Oscar-winning actor (Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Traffic) has played dozens of memorable roles. He even made an appearance in another Disney property, playing The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy, as you can see in the image above. One of del Toro's most memorable roles was in The Usual Suspects, in which he played Fred Fenster, a role for which he developed an unforgettable accent, which you can hear below. Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for a May 26, 2017 release — 40 years to the day that the original Star Wars movie arrived in theaters. Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper) is set to direct.
Two other Star Wars movies will arrive in theaters before then. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens hits theaters on Dec. 18, while the first spinoff Star Wars film, Rogue One, will be released Dec. 16, 2016. The next Star Wars Anthology film will tell Han Solo's origin story. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) will direct and Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, Raiders of the Lost Ark) and his son, Jon Kasdan, will write the screenplay.
