During its keynote session at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, Netflix unveiled the first look at two of its upcoming original series.
The Crown is based on the early life of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) and her relationship with husband, Prince Phillip (Matt Smith). At the same time, the show will focus on her tense relationship with Sir Winston Churchill, played by John Lithgow.
According to a press release, the series will offer an in-depth look at the personal and private life of the queen against the backdrop of a deteriorating country and emerging war.
The second series, The Get Down, comes from visionary director Baz Luhrmann. The show follows a group of teenagers in the South Bronx during the late 1970's.
Using a blend of punk, hip-hop and disco, Luhrmann will explore how the rebirth of music saved the city from its own self-destruction.
Both shows are set to debut later this year, but there are no concrete dates as of yet.
