Final Fantasy 15 made an appearance at this weekend’s TwitchCon 2016 event, and Square Enix debuted footage of one of the deadliest types of magic in the game. As lead hero Prince Noctis, players can wield the death spell, a classic move that looks especially insidious in the gameplay above.
There are several reasons for why Final Fantasy 15’s death magic is so unsettling. For one, it’s literal death magic. Although Noctis has several high-powered maneuvers in his arsenal, when the player has to resort to this attack, it shows that they mean business. In this case, "business" is squeezing the utter life out of enemies as their bodies disintegrate and they eventually implode.
Players aren’t required to use the death spell for as long as Noctis does in the video, but increased use means increased damage — and physical deterioration. Full-figured creatures crushed beneath the claws of death is certainly an uncomfortable sight to behold, but we’d be lying if we said this overpowered move wasn’t one of Final Fantasy 15’s coolest thus far.
After more than a decade in development, Final Fantasy 15 launches Nov. 29 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
