A follow-up to Star Trek Beyond is on the way, and it will feature Chris Hemsworth as Captain James T. Kirk's father, Paramount Pictures announced today.
In the next installment, Captain Kirk, played by Chris Pine, will have a chance to cross paths with his father, George Kirk. Hemsworth first played the role in the 2009 Star Trek film, helmed by J.J. Abrams.
The "remaining cast" is expected to return for the new movie, according to a press release from the studio, with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay on board to write the screenplay. Paramount has not announced a director at this time, but the first two movies were helmed by J.J. Abrams while the most recent installment, Beyond, was directed by Justin Lin.
Star Trek Beyond hits theaters July 22.
