This week’s list of new Nintendo eShop games runs short, with the Nintendo Switch seeing just three titles and a demo. The good news is that one of those new games just so happens to be The Jackbox Party Pack 3, the latest entry in what has quickly become an all-time classic series.
Jackbox Games’ digital board game collections are required at all Team Polygon functions. If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing them yourself — or partying with us — here’s the rundown: Each set includes a handful of some of the funniest, weirdest, wittiest party games we’ve ever played. Requiring just a console and a smartphone, it’s easy for a ton of people to get in on Jackbox without explaining complicated controls or buying extra controllers.
The Jackbox Party Pack 3 has a total of five games, including our favorite, Quiplash 2. It’s a poll-based minigame where each player tries to make the others laugh the hardest with their best (or worst, or dumbest) goof. Watch us play below to see exactly why this one’s our top choice:
Other party games have you drawing T-shirts, answering trivia to ward off a murderer and making guesses about some absurd, highly specific fun facts.
The Switch’s portability makes it a great pick for parties, and The Jackbox Party Pack 3 is easily our best recommendation of what to play on the console with a big group of people. At $24.99, it’s pricier than most Nintendo Switch eShop exclusives; we have a feeling you’ll get your $25 bucks’ worth, now that summer hangout season is upon us.
For the single-player Switch owners among us, there’s Mr. Shifty. The intriguing action game costs $14.99 and combines stealth with isometric shooters with ... Nightcrawler from X-Men. If that logline grabs you, it’s worth checking out.
The NeoGeo game Samurai Shodown 4 is also now on Switch for $7.99. Check out our big making-of feature to learn more about that franchise.
Last but not least is a free demo for Puyo Puyo Tetris. But that’s just a demo, and of all games you need to try before you buy, we wouldn’t call Tetris one of them.
