Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy debuted the first poster for the upcoming film, and longtime fans of the franchise should be pretty happy with the result.
The poster, which can be seen in full below, is a callback to some of the art used for the original trilogy. In one of the more memorable posters for Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, Luke can be seen standing in the middle, wielding his lightsaber in a very King Arthur-like stance. It’s the same kind of pose that Johnson and the design team at Lucasfilm are trying to mirror with Rey, as seen in the poster below.
To the left, the older version of Luke Skywalker we were introduced to in The Force Awakens can be seen next to Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Kylo Ren, the son of Han Solo, was introduced in The Force Awakens and will play a very important role in the trilogy’s second installment, if this poster and the movie’s first trailer are anything to go by.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on Dec. 15.
