Cars 3 is just around the corner and while it’s practically been confirmed that Lightning McQueen will not die, it hasn’t stopped Disney from using his horrific accident in every trailer.
The newest trailer does provide the best look yet at what’s to come for the tiny red racer, though. Unlike the first couple of trailers, which made his accident more mysterious by slowing down the scene and leaving McQueen flying through the air, the clip in question is longer than ever in the new trailer. McQueen can be seen bouncing along the racetrack and tumbling through the air. The trailer also hints that the accident is caused by McQueen’s newest rival, Jackson Storm.
When Disney and Pixar released the first teaser trailer for the film, the horrific images of McQueen flying through the air ruffled a few fans’ feathers. The trailer played before screenings of Disney’s Moana back in November, where numerous patrons noted that young children in the theater began to cry upon seeing McQueen’s lifeless, smoking chassis flip through the air.
In followup trailers, Disney made it a little more apparent that McQueen would be fine by the end of the movie, but little was said about the actual plot other than McQueen finding himself. This new trailer seems to confirm that Cars 3 will return to its racing roots, which was sorely missed in Cars 2.
Cars 3 will be released on June 16.
