Network Time Protocol
The NTP capability of Cadence simply allows Novell NetWare and Microsoft NT servers to poll the time from over the Internet via TCP/IP protocol. Once the Cadence is loaded onto your server, it contacts a remote host running NTP. Your server needs to contact only one host.
Cadence then synchronizes your network of servers and workstations. Your network will be synchronized with the same, correct time.
Cadence NTP allows for time-zone corrections over WANs, allows for semi-annual daylight savings time adjustments, and provides you with the automatic drift correction. You set the interval at which the workstations check the server's time. All of these processes can be initiated automatically, performed under your supervision or suspended at any point. Our status display keeps you informed and in full control.
How do I select a Host-Time Server?
Thousands of time servers are running NTP on the Internet. A significant number of these are willing to provide a public time-synchronization service. You simply choose NTP as the time source, then choose the location in your country.
You may find a list of NTP Stratum 1 and 2 servers on the NTP home page, http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/ntp.html. The list designates the NTP time server available for public access under stated restrictions. Avoid using servers not listed as open access, unless approved first by the contact person. Using such servers listed as closed access my disrupt ongoing research in which these servers are involved.
The location and distance between you and the host server are not critical. Select either a defaulted NTP source or choose an NTP host server with which your server can reliably communicate.
Cadence keeps the time.
Cadence follows your set-up guidelines to broadcast chimes that command networked workstations to update their clocks. The Cadence workstation TSR uses only 1.5K of RAM.
Cadence runs on thousands of NetWare 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, and NT servers.
If you have a mission-critical application running in a NetWare and NT environment, Cadence Time Services is the solution to keep your entire network running on-time.

Cadence also interfaces with the Traconex ITS WWV and the TrueTime radio clocks. Please contact Polygon for more information on these time modules.
