A bit of disappointment
I should preface this by stating that I really do like the site.
Polygon, to me, has missed an opportunity. I had expected Polygon to do to Gaming blogs what the Verge did to tech blogs. That is to say, be something more. I thought this would be the website to acknowledge that a game should be more than functional to be good. I thought that I would get more interviews with Indies and more behind the scenes insight into studios. I thought that I wouldn't just be presented with more regurgitated press releases. I thought that this would be something different.
What I got was 80% Kotaku and 20% Verge. There are still some great features that come through the site. Most recently, the interview with Douglas Wilson comes to mind. The Verge spends so much time talking about technology, not technology news. I wish that Polygon was doing the same with gaming. I want to hear from people within all parts of the community about where we are and where we're going. I want to know why developers make the choices they make. I want to talk about the intersection of business and art and how they effect each other (Is Call of Duty really anything more than a well executed marketing plan?). I want to talk about gaming as a medium and as an art form.
What I don't want, is to know every time Turn10 puts a new car in Forza Horizon.
