Did Sony just kill their gaming division?

Sony has filed for a patent that would link a game disk with a users account, making the game playable only on that users equipment. This would happen on the disc itself, and wouldn't require a network connection.

This would effectively kill the second hand market for any Sony game.

Granted, the patent doesn't specify which machine Sony will use it in, but I'd speculate it'll be used in future versions of the Play Station.
