So my son says he wants to make video games.

I am not sure if this is the right venue for this question, but I'd figure I'll try anyways.

My 13 year old son has expressed interest in making video games. After eyeing him for a second or two I asked him what part of video game development was he interested in getting into. The blank stare that I received told me that really he was just looking for a job that allows him to play video games all day. I told him, being somewhat aware (my experience is reading gaming news) that programming might be the best way to start..

is this a good place to direct him? any advice on where he should start to learn to program.. He has no knowledge of it at all, so the very basic stuff would be needed. I am thinking of something simple enough just to see if this is the direction he actually wants to go down.

Thanks ahead of time.
