Polynauts Central: Magitek Armoured Edition (Archived Tue 6/11)

Today's header image brought to you by Revolurt.

Today is Tuesday, November 6th and we're here at Polynauts Central on Polygon. What is Polynauts Central? Well, it's your place for off-topic discussion and brief update on the past day of events in the realm of Polygon -- Or your daily Polygon community thread!

Our very own PaddyStardust felt so bad about not being able to follow through on his promise of free iPhone 5s to all Polynauts (because he traded them in for London Cab Challenge), he decided that everyone gets a free set of Magitek armour.

1: "Mikami's Project Zwei to feature the work of lead artist behind Resident Evil remake" by Emily Gera

"Environmental art in Project Zwei, the upcoming survival horror title from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, will be created by the former lead artist behind the GameCube reboot of Resident Evil, according to the official Project Zwei website.

The remake of Resident Evil, known in Japan as Biohazard Rebirth, was developed as part of an exclusive deal between Nintendo and Capcom in 2002."

2: "DmC: Devil May Cry uses techniques learned from Dragon's Dogma to deliver the feel of a 60 FPS game" by Emily Gera

"DmC: Devil May Cry uses techniques learned from Dragon's Dogma to create the sensation of playing at 60 frames-per-second, despite in reality running at 30 frames on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, director Hideaki Itsuno told Eurogamer.

According to Itsuno, Capcom experimented with numerous techniques to create this feel using Unreal Engine during the development of Dragon's Dogma."

3: "'Mega-rare' Atari game sells for more than $33,000" by Samit Sarkar

"A copy of Air Raid, which is regarded as the rarest Atari 2600 game, sold for $33,433.30 on video game auction site GameGavel yesterday.

The game's owner, Harv Bennett, recently told Polygon that it had been sitting in storage for about two decades, until he and his daughter unearthed it last month. Bennett had opened this particular copy a total of five times and played it, but the box itself was intact, including the instruction manual — the first one known to survive to the present day."

4: "Certification for Windows 8 is a 'broken concept,' says Serious Sam developer" by Alexa Ray Corriea

"Certification through Microsoft for an application's inclusion on the Windows Store is "a viscious cycle" that "is broken and should be abolished," Croteam CTO Alen Ladavac wrote in a post on Steam's community forums.

Microsoft's restrictions for downloading all applications through its store, even free ones, is a "horrible idea," wrote Ladavac. Each application downloaded through the Windows Store must meet certain requirements imposed by Microsoft, and the company has already banned "mature games" including Skyrim and Serious Sam as well as modding, wrote Ladavac."

5: "THQ posts $21 million loss, seeking financing after key game delays" by Michael McWhertor

"Struggling video game publisher THQ reported earnings for its second quarter today, posting a $21 million loss on $107.4 million in revenue for the three months ending Sep. 30. In addition to announcing delays for three key titles originally slated for release in early 2013, THQ also revealed it was looking for financial help.

THQ announced it had engaged investment banking and private equity investment firm Centerview Partners to help the publisher find additional capital. The publisher says it is "evaluating strategic and financing alternatives" to improve THQ's "overall liquidity" and its ability to publish its upcoming titles."

1: "Access the Hawken closed beta with the Polygon super code" by Justin McElroy

"If you want access to the next Hawken closed beta (beginning around Nov. 8) we've got you covered. The first 10,000 Polygon readers that sign up for the beta at playhawken.com and enter the code HAWKEN_Polygon are going to be blowing up robots while their friends look on in envy, like so many urchins with their noses pressed against the bakery window."

2: "Guess that game-game." by Kinapuff

Figured this would make for an interesting thread should enough people participate.

The rules are these:

*Simply post a screenshot from a game, preferably a cropped one featuring something recognizable.

*Others may guess which game it is by replying to the comment in spoiler tags.

*Hints may most definitely be given.

*Try to guess/reply to unsolved posts before submitting your own, although this is not a requirement.

3: "ACIII, My review: We didn't think that far ahead" by Nipah

"That sounds negative, doesn't it? Don't get me wrong, I loved 90% of the game... the combat (especially the naval bits), the story (for the most part), the characters, the weapons, the terrain, everything was pretty much spectacular... but they dropped the ball on quite a few little things."

4: "Thesis Research: The relationship between you & games developers." by ShaunMcIlroy

"Hey folks, I'm looking a little bit of help. Well, not help as such, more insight than anything.

I'm currently on Year 3 (of 3) at university studying Computer Games Technology and I'm working on my final year project, or thesis/dissertation if that makes more sense.

Let me give you a brief outline of the question I'm asking:

"Enjoy your day at the park, meatbags."
