Upgrade my rig, or start a new build from scratch?
PC Gaming Master Race Polynauts:
I built my old gaming PC in fall 2009. Here are the rough specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-920 2.66Ghz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI X58 Pro-E ATX LGA1366 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 5770 1GB Video Card (2-Way CrossFire)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 5770 1GB Video Card (2-Way CrossFire)
Case: NZXT LEXA S (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: LG WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer
It is showing its age, and I was thinking about upgrading some of the components. Specifically, I was going to upgrade my GPU to a single NVidia 580 GTX that belonged to a friend of mine, get an SSD, and get 12 GB (3 x 4GB) of RAM (triple channel to go with the motherboard). Do you think the motherboard and CPU are still okay for now? Or at this point would you just do a full new PC build?
If you recommend a new build, what parts are you enthusiastic about right now?
Thanks!
