Alien Spidy review: spider in sheep's clothing

Alien Spidy presents players with a deceptive package. Underneath the friendly exterior is a score chase in the form of a 2D physics-based platformer, with a difficulty level that often sits on the wrong side of punishing and slippery controls. It looks innocent, but it might bite you. Mechanically, Alien Spidy is simple. You run, jump and shoot webbing, which you use to swing from objects in the environment. There’s also a limited set of power-ups (super speed, a super jump, etc.) that come in handy in specific areas. Alien Spidy invading XBLA, PC and Mac on March 20

Action-platformer Alien Spidy is coming to Xbox Live Arcade, PC and Mac platforms on March 20, publisher Kalypso Media Digital announced today. The upcoming title will hit PlayStation Network soon after; however, a specific release date is yet to be made available on this platform. The XBLA release will be available for 800 MS Points, while users can purchase the title on PC and Mac for $9.99. The PSN release will also be available to purchase at $9.99 at its launch. Developed by Enigma Software, Alien Spidy tells the story of an alien spider who crash lands on earth while attempting to find his buddy Virgi as well as lost pieces of his spaceship. The game includes 69 levels, three settings and 350 collectible items and achievements.

Alien Spidy trailer shows just how hard it is to avoid Earth's fierce creatures

A trailer released today for Alien Spidy, Enigma Software's upcoming physics-based platformer staring an alien arachnid, showcases the game non-playable characters. The game's 69-plus levels follow the adventures of the titular spider as he navigates Earth's terrain searching for his shipwrecked buddy Virgi. Check out the trailer above to see Spidy using dragonflies to bounce through the air, avoiding hungry fish underwater and making his way around prickly hedgehogs on land. Alien Spidy is scheduled for release in "early 2013" on Xbox 360 through Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation 3 through PlayStation Network, Windows PC and Mac, according to a press release from publisher Kalypso Media Digital.
