Angry Birds Star Wars review: Great shot, kid

Environments are a surreal amalgamation of the two universes, bordering on ironic pop art. The wood, glass and steel building blocks of the previous games are constructed to resemble Tatooine Landspeeders and moisture farms. The vines of Dagobah become suspension bridges, and the towers of the Death Star become barricades, protecting Stormtrooper pigs. The end result is more Spaceballs than Star Wars, a mish-mash of trippy visuals and in-jokes. Bonus levels ... let the player play as R2D2 and C-3PO-birds. Speaking of in-jokes, the compulsory inclusion of fan-service calls to mind Disney's recently released Wreck-It Ralph, the computer-animated film about a rogue arcade villain, which was clearly made by people who love video games. This app is the inverse, a game clearly made...

Angry Birds: Star Wars' PS4 features aim to 'sell that couch experience'

Activision believes Angry Birds: Star Wars is a good fit on PlayStation 4 due the multiple control options available when using the DualShock 4, most notably it's central touchpad, producer Matt Hohl told Polygon. Hohl explained that Activision was attracted to the DualShock 4's central touchpad, which can be used to launch Angry Birds and activate their special attacks. The most feather-light touch will activate the touchpad, which in my hands-on time with Angry Birds: Star Wars proved to be highly sensitive. Once the bird has been launched, clicking the touchpad will activate special attacks like a lightsaber or force push, depending on the character. The title also features a cooperative mode in which players can take turns shooting birds into the pig-infested fragile landscapes. H...

How Rovio hopes to go beyond Angry Birds and become a 'powerhouse'

"In the beginning we were a mobile games company," Laes told Polygon during a recent event in New York City. "There's no question about that, it's how we got started. But we're off to a good start at becoming an entertainment company, and we do work in-house and with partners on video and animation. "It's not only about games, it's about the physical side of things: consumer products, toys, books and all kinds of things on the educational side," he added. "So it's a lot more than games — but of course games are still in many ways at the heart of the company. That's where we got started and where the bulk of the creative talent in the company works still. That's our history, our evolution, so we continue to see games as the core part of the entertainment company that we're building. "...

Rovio teases new game with Angry Birds Star Wars image

Finnish developer Rovio Entertainment is set to announce a new game on Monday, and a teaser image suggests it could be another entry into the Angry Birds Star Wars series. The image, posted above, was revealed on Rovio's official website along with news of the upcoming announcement. The picture shows a Red Bird dressed in young Anakin Skywalker's podracing gear from Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace — and the shadow of Darth Vader's signature helmet behind him. This suggests the new game may borrow elements from the second trilogy of Star Wars films, Episode 1 through Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. According to the post, the new game will feature new powers, the "biggest character line-up ever" and some surprises. Angry Birds Star Wars launched in November last year. The game...
