Platinum Games' witch 'em up action game Bayonetta 2 will come to Wii U this October, Nintendo announced today during its E3 digital event. In addition to a more firm release window for the game, Nintendo also revealed that the original Bayonetta will be included as part of the package. The first Bayonetta was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2009. Nintendo is sweetening the Bayonetta package by adding a few console-exclusive costumes. Players will be able to dress the eponymous witch up like Princess Peach, Link from The Legend of Zelda or Samus Aran from Metroid in the Wii U port of Bayonetta. Some of her hair-based attacks will include Nintendo-themed variations. She'll be able to summon Bowser's foot through a portal, for example. Bayonetta 2 was announced as a Wii U...

Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2 will be featured in the next Nintendo Direct conference scheduled for June 11, series creator Hideki Kamiya announced on his official Twitter account. In response to a question posed online, Kamiya stated Bayonetta 2 will be part of Nintendo Direct "next week." Last year, Nintendo finally announced a Bayonetta sequel was underway for its newest console. During that Nintendo Direct conference it was revealed producer Atsushi Inaba and director Yosuke Hashimoto will return for the sequel, which Nintendo will publish. Correction: It remains unclear whether Kamiya's comments are accurate, as the developer is well-known for misleading tweets. Polygon contacted Nintendo for clarification and they declined to comment. We apologize for the confusion.

Bayonetta and Vanquish developer Platinum Games aspires to have what it describes as a "Western" relationship between the studio and its publishers, studio president and CEO Tatsuya Minami said in the latest Iwata Asks Q&A. Speaking to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, Minami said that Platinum Games has a distinctive philosophy, which is that of being uncompromising. For this reason, it aims for what it calls a "Western" relationship between studio and publisher. "The people at development studios in Europe and America are being funded by publishers but won't do everything they're told," Minami said. "We want to preserve that even relationship while making the games we want. If we fail, the company will break up, and if it goes well, we'll be like, 'Take that!' "I think that kind of...

A new trailer for the upcoming Bayonetta 2 was shown during today's Nintendo Direct, offering a look at the development process behind the sequel and the creation of character and environment models. The video offers a number of short interviews with designers at Platinum Games, who detail the work that goes into creating everything from realistic leather garments in-game to developing numerous different locations in a way that fits within the Bayonetta world.
