Bayonetta to get film adaptation from Sega and Hellsing anime studio

Platinum Games' Bayonetta is getting its own anime adaptation in a collaboration between Sega and animation studio Gonzo, Bayonetta Bloody Fate, according to a trailer and website for the title that recently appeared online. The trailer, posted above, features a handful of familiar faces from the original 2009 title — including Cereza, Enzo, Jean, Luka and Rodin — as well as some rather gruesome blood fountains and a very flashy transformation sequence for the titular witch. The film will be headed by Afro Samurai director Fuminori Kizaki and is set to launch in theaters in Japan on Nov. 23. Studio Gonzo is known for its work on many popular darker-themed anime, including Rosario + Vampire, Gankutsuo: The Count of Monte Cristo, Hellsing and Chrono Crusade. The studio has also opened...

Bayonetta 2 featuring in next Nintendo Direct on June 11 (update)

Wii U exclusive Bayonetta 2 will be featured in the next Nintendo Direct conference scheduled for June 11, series creator Hideki Kamiya announced on his official Twitter account. In response to a question posed online, Kamiya stated Bayonetta 2 will be part of Nintendo Direct "next week." Last year, Nintendo finally announced a Bayonetta sequel was underway for its newest console. During that Nintendo Direct conference it was revealed producer Atsushi Inaba and director Yosuke Hashimoto will return for the sequel, which Nintendo will publish. Correction: It remains unclear whether Kamiya's comments are accurate, as the developer is well-known for misleading tweets. Polygon contacted Nintendo for clarification and they declined to comment. We apologize for the confusion.

Platinum Games aims for a 'Western' relationship between developer and publisher, Minami says

Bayonetta and Vanquish developer Platinum Games aspires to have what it describes as a "Western" relationship between the studio and its publishers, studio president and CEO Tatsuya Minami said in the latest Iwata Asks Q&A. Speaking to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, Minami said that Platinum Games has a distinctive philosophy, which is that of being uncompromising. For this reason, it aims for what it calls a "Western" relationship between studio and publisher. "The people at development studios in Europe and America are being funded by publishers but won't do everything they're told," Minami said. "We want to preserve that even relationship while making the games we want. If we fail, the company will break up, and if it goes well, we'll be like, 'Take that!' "I think that kind of...

Bayonetta available on PSN Jan. 29 for $19.99

Platinum Game's over-the-top third-person action title, Bayonetta, will launch for PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network on Jan. 29, Sega Blog announced. A Nintendo Wii U-exclusive sequel was announced in September 2013.

Bayonetta 2 designers offer a glimpse into the development of a world of leather and monsters

A new trailer for the upcoming Bayonetta 2 was shown during today's Nintendo Direct, offering a look at the development process behind the sequel and the creation of character and environment models. The video offers a number of short interviews with designers at Platinum Games, who detail the work that goes into creating everything from realistic leather garments in-game to developing numerous different locations in a way that fits within the Bayonetta world. According to the designers, the scale of Bayonetta 2 is "very different" this time, while users should expect it to feel as if you are fighting the last boss from the very beginning of the game. The Wii U exclusive was first announced last year.

Anarchy Reigns review: new again

It's impossible to separate the game's mechanics from its character roster, which is a kitchen sink of cyborgs, pig mutants, pimps, characters from MadWorld (and Bayonetta if you pre-ordered), and seemingly whatever else the designers could think up, giving players a fighter for whatever level of exaggeration they want. While many games these days create generic main characters to appeal to the widest possible audience, Anarchy Reigns goes in the opposite direction with characters full of personality and unique looks. That personality, in fact, is a big part of the game's appeal — both because it has a bit of a nostalgic feel, and because it plays out in the game's combat. You rarely see a game go to these lengths to define characters through their combos, their charge...

Following that, Nintendo of America will broadcast its own. The details of tonight's Nintendo Direct have not be disclosed, but we can safely expect that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will discuss the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and/or the Wii. Expect Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime to do the same.
