Black Ops 2 replaces the COD class system with the radically different "Pick 10" Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 dramatically alters the status quo in Call of Duty's genre-dominating mulitplayer mode with a new create-a-class system. Since the original Modern Warfare, players have customized their classes by picking three perks, two weapons, one piece of lethal equipment and one piece of non-lethal equipment. That rigid structure has been discarded in Black Ops 2 with "Pick 10." Traditional equipment choices remain, but with one crucial change: They're all optional. Every slot filled costs a single point. You don't need to walk into battle with a secondary weapon — you can leave that slot open and take an additional attachment for your primary weapon, or a second non-lethal grenade. Don't...

Two years after the game launched, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has made the Nuketown 2025 map available on Wii U, coinciding with a double XP weekend on that console. Nuketown 2025 free, and players will get it by installing an update to the game. The map was originally a pre-order incentive for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and was made available to all platforms through the Revolution DLC pack in January 2013. Additionally, the Zombies-mode map Die Rise is expected to finally arrive on Wii U. Miiverse users had said they'd seen it added to the game's menus (and included screenshots) but were unable to launch it yet. No formal announcement was made of the map's release, leaving it to players to speculate why it was coming out now. Or, as one put it in Miiverse: "This is wonderful....

Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega is the latest public figure to take legal arms against a company for using his likeness in a video game, taking Activision to court for the publisher's portrayal of him in 2012 shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Courthouse News reports. Following a route similar to that of actress Lindsay Lohan, who is suing developer Rockstar for allegedly using her likeness in last year's Grand Theft Auto 5, Noriega and his lawyers claim Activision used his likeness to "increase the popularity and revenue generated by Black Ops 2" without his consent. Noriega was Panama's military dictator from 1983 until 1989, when the U.S. invaded the country and removed him from power. He was sent to prison in 1992, but was tried and sentenced again after his release in...

Call of Duty Elite, Activision's service for tracking stats and progress in the first-person shooter franchise, will end Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. ET, according to an Activision FAQ that also explains what happens next. Launched in late 2011 alongside the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with a mixture of free and paid services, Elite became free alongside Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 in late 2012. The service is available on consoles, mobile devices and PC. When Elite shuts down this week, clans and their management tools for Black Ops 2 and Modern Warfare 3 will no longer be available. Activision is encouraging players to download the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which contains similar functionality for the latest game in the first-person shooter franchise. Those who've...

Activision's performance during the third quarter of its 2013 fiscal year surpassed expectations, and the publisher is revising its guidance for the fourth quarter, according to the company's latest financial report. Activision pulled in $691 million of net revenue during the three-month period ending Sept. 30, lower than the $841 million of net revenue from the same quarter a year ago but 8.8 percent ahead of the publisher's expectation of $635 million. Net revenue came in at $409 million, 59 percent of the total — a record-high proportion for Activision's third quarter. Continued sales of two major titles from 2012, Skylanders Giants and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, helped drive Activision's performance — they were two of the top five best-selling games in both North America and...

An American eSports team of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players from Complexity Gaming took top honors at Gfinity's G2 tournament last weekend. The "coL.COD" team walked away from G2, which was held Oct. 12-13 at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden, with $30,000. Gfinity was founded earlier this year "by gamers and with the backing of successful investors" and held its first tournament in July. "Gfinity is a new company and to have seen this much support both at the event and from viewers at home has been overwhelming," said Paul Kent, COO of the eSports organization, which was founded earlier this year. "We aim to put the U.K. on the eSports [map], and G2 has helped to turn that corner by offering professional gamers the chance to play in a high-caliber tournament amongst their...
