Black Ops 2 on PS3 still has freezing issues, second patch 'should' drop today

The PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is still prone to some freezing issues after Saturday's patch, and a second patch reportedly planned for release today, according to a thread on Activision's support forums. Last week players began experiencing screen freezing that required a system reset, with instances of the console shutting off completely while in-game. Most of these issues were experienced during online multiplayer matches. Activision released a patch on Nov. 17 to address the freezing problems, but it didn't correct the issue for all players. "We are aware that some customers are still experiencing PS3 lock-ups after installing the patch and we are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible," reads a message from Activision on...

PlayStation VP of marketing says Sony focusing on PlayStation Plus and PS3, Vita content

Sony plans to focus on PlayStation Plus as well as the PlayStation 3's and PlayStation Vita's content libraries in holiday-season marketing, said John Koller, the company's vice president of marketing for consoles and handhelds, in an interview with GamesIndustry International. The PlayStation 3 may lack heavy-hitting exclusives on the level of Halo 4 this year. But Koller touted the big picture, focusing on the console's existing library of top-tier games and the ones due out in 2013. "You're buying into a system that has not only a great holiday ahead of it," he said, "but also a great future ahead of it over the next few years" — a future including games such as Naughty Dog's The Last of Us and Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls. "This isn't going to be a system that people come...

Nihilistic Software, the studio behind Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, Resistance: Burning Skies, and PlayStation Move Heroes is re-organizing itself to focus on downloadable, online, and mobile games. As part of the reorganization the studio is undergoing a name change and will now be known as nStigate. It will be abandoning retail boxed game development in favor of digital downloads. The studio wrote in an update on its website that it is undergoing this transition without any planned layoffs and without leaving behind any debts, but it also said that over the next few months the studio will "get leaner as some of our talent finds new homes, and emerge as a smaller and more focused company." Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will launch on Wii U without the Call of Duty Elite service, publisher Activision confirmed to Kotaku. Polygon recently spoke with Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg about Elite on Wii U, and he said that the company's goal is to bring the service to Nintendo's new console, but that it is "still working out the details with Nintendo." Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is tailor-made for the Vita, says Nihilistic

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is not meant to act as a port of previous Call of Duty games, but is an experience specifically targeted for the PlayStation Vita, Nihilistic Software CEO Robert Huebner told One of Swords. According to Huebner, Declassified isn't trying to center on a big campaign storyline or major cinematics. "It's more focused on the multiplayer essence of Call of Duty and bringing that to a portable device as completely as possible," Huebner said, "and in bringing short, objective-based missions and score-driven gameplay with lighter story elements to create what we call the Operations missions." "The goal was not to make a product that is a port of any past or present Call of Duty game, but to make a tailored experience for the Vita that adds new content and...
