It's a concept that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 leans into, albeit selectively. Don't get me wrong: Dracula's not weak by any stretch of the imagination. He's powerful enough to put the fear of God into ... well, the Devil. But when he encounters a dude with a big gun, his only means of survival is to turn into a bunch of rats? The hierarchy of power in this world is awfully confusing. In today's Overview, Phil walks me through one of the opening sections of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, which includes one of the Chu Chu Rocket-esque segments referenced above. Watch as we sneak through a factory, defeat a boss and uncover the first Chaos Emerald, thwarting both Dr. Robotnik and Satan in one fell swoop.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 features a formidable collection of swords to go along with its impressive cast of characters, according to the game's launch trailer, which was released by publisher Konami today. A variety of long blades can be seen in the trailer, whether they're being pointed ominously off to the side, plunged into the chest of a winged beast or engulfed in demonic flames. And with permutations of the phrase "blood is," the trailer offers glimpses of the story in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. At the end of the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — spoiler alert! — Gabriel Belmont turned out to be Dracula. In this follow-up, he's stuck in the present day in a weakened state, and a previous acquaintance offers him a way out of his torment. Castlevania: Lords of...

The trailer above shows how Dracula revives the Toy Maker in an attempt to find the Mirror of Fate. Shortly after this revival, the Toy Maker transforms into a mechanical toy dragon and begins an assault on the player, resulting in the fight shown above. The Toy Maker made his first appearance in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — Mirror of Fate, which launched in North America on the 3DS in March 2013. It later launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in October. Cursed by Walter Bernhard of the Bernhard family, he uses his knowledge and skill to craft weapons and puppets of death...

The latest trailer for MercurySteam's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, released today by publisher Konami, introduces us to the game's cast of characters and the impressive voice talent behind it. A significant portion of the cast consists of characters returning from the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which was released in 2010. That includes — spoiler alert! — Dracula, formerly Gabriel Belmont (Robert Carlyle, Trainspotting); Zobek (Patrick Stewart, Star Trek: The Next Generation); Carmilla (Sally Knyvette, EastEnders); Marie (Natasha McElhone, Ronin) and Satan (Jason Isaacs, The Patriot). Some characters, such as Alucard (Richard Madden, Game of Thrones), appeared in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. Others, like Raisa Volkova (Alex Childs, Misfits), are...

A new trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 discusses what it means to put the player in control of one of fiction's greatest villains. Lords of Shadow 2 sees Gabriel Belmont, the protagonist of the first game, having fallen into darkness and becoming Dracula. The first game took Gabriel from light to dark, says the game's producer Dave Cox, and this game takes him from dark to darker, being significantly crueler than its predecessor. Dracula is not a nice person, of course, but this incarnation of him is intended to be more complicated and human than iterations in previous Castlevania titles, where all he did was show up and be evil. This was the purpose of having a game explaining his fall, say the devs, in that he becomes a character that human players can relate to. The...

A new Gamescom trailer for Konami's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 examines the skills of the fallen hero Dracula. Dracula will have to regain his former skills and weaponry over the course of the game, as they have been stripped from him along with control of his castle. The trailer demonstrates the Void Sword, a weapon that allows Dracula to regain life points whenever he deals damage. To properly utilize the sword, the player must build Focus by landing consecutive attacks without taking damage, and then absorb orbs of blood that Dracula's attacks knock out of enemies when he is fully Focused. The trailer also shows abilities like the Sync Block, which stuns enemies but requires precise timing, and some of the various tools that Dracula has to traverse his environment. In classic...
