New boss named for Konami USA

Konami today announced a new company president, Tomohiro Uesugi, who will handle the firm's U.S. video game operations. It's been almost two years since Konami veteran Tomoyuki Tsuboi was appointed to the role of president for Los Angeles-based Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. According to a company spokesperson, he is being "transferred back to Japan" in a shuffle that, the spokesperson added, is "fairly standard for Japanese companies." Prior to joining Konami as an executive vice president in 2013, Uesugi worked at electronics manufacturer Sanyo, and has experience in the banking and financial sectors. He has spent the last year running internal departments at Konami in the U.S. such as HR and accounts. "I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the head of our...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 Revelations DLC may introduce a playable Alucard

Upcoming Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 "Revelations" DLC may see players take on the role of Alucard, according to content reportedly found in the game's text files by CS.RIN.RU forum member UbiSergei. The content's description states that Alucard will be a playable character where players can discover new plotlines and uncover and "discover the true extent of Alucard's involvement." First appearing in 1989 game Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse, Alucard is the son of Dracula, the anti-hero of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, and a human called Lisa. The half vampire was the main protagonist in 1997's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and fights his father in Dracula's Curse and Castlevania Legends with other the vampire hunters. "Play as Alucard in this extensive add on for C...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 - Overview video

It's a concept that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 leans into, albeit selectively. Don't get me wrong: Dracula's not weak by any stretch of the imagination. He's powerful enough to put the fear of God into ... well, the Devil. But when he encounters a dude with a big gun, his only means of survival is to turn into a bunch of rats? The hierarchy of power in this world is awfully confusing. In today's Overview, Phil walks me through one of the opening sections of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, which includes one of the Chu Chu Rocket-esque segments referenced above. Watch as we sneak through a factory, defeat a boss and uncover the first Chaos Emerald, thwarting both Dr. Robotnik and Satan in one fell swoop.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 review: bad blood

The first Lords of Shadow was released to a skeptical Castlevania fanbase in 2010. Despite the problems some had with developer MercurySteam's handling of the beloved franchise, it found a following, thanks in part to several major late-game twists. This left players buzzing for a sequel, and after a brief handheld sidestory in last year's Mirror of Fate, the true follow-up is finally here. But this conclusion to MercurySteam's run on Castlevania is a far cry from the exciting potential suggested by the first game's cliffhanger ending. Lords of Shadow 2 fosters brief reminders of what made the first game special, but its novel premise is squandered on boring environments, terrible set piece moments and all-but-outright refusal to deliver on the over-the-top narrative that drew me in...

See the big swords of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2's launch trailer

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 features a formidable collection of swords to go along with its impressive cast of characters, according to the game's launch trailer, which was released by publisher Konami today. A variety of long blades can be seen in the trailer, whether they're being pointed ominously off to the side, plunged into the chest of a winged beast or engulfed in demonic flames. And with permutations of the phrase "blood is," the trailer offers glimpses of the story in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. At the end of the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — spoiler alert! — Gabriel Belmont turned out to be Dracula. In this follow-up, he's stuck in the present day in a weakened state, and a previous acquaintance offers him a way out of his torment. Castlevania: Lords of...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2's Dracula is a Tony Soprano nosferatu

MercurySteam wants Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 to cause players to constantly question what constitutes as evil and leave players uncertain of the protagonist's intentions throughout the game, right through to the very end. Speaking to Polygon at a recent event in Sydney, the game's producer Dave Cox uses Tony Soprano from the television drama The Sopranos as an example. "When you think about Tony Soprano as a character, you find yourself going, 'Tony is great, I really like Tony'," Cox said. "And all of the sudden he starts viciously murdering someone. Those kind of scenes bring you back to reality and make you question the character." The Lords of Shadow games follow protagonist's Gabriel Belmont's fall into darkness and transformation into Dracula. The first game, Lords of...
