Nintendo is bringing a handful of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS titles to PAX East 2013, including major upcoming games such as Pikmin 3 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the company announced today. Nintendo's PAX East slate features seven Wii U titles and nine 3DS games, as well as the Wii Street U app. The lineup contains a mix of unreleased titles and games that are already available. Mercury Steam's action adventure title, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, appeared in Valve's digital distribution service's database, indicating the title may be due for a PC release. The name registered with Steam is "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Early Access Comp," possibly hinting at a complimentary access code with the upcoming sequel. The history states that the entry was added a day ago and the last update has a "March 17, 2013 - 00:24:14 UTC" timestamp. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was initially released to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Oct. 5, 2010. The sequel, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, is due for release this year for Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. SPOILER WARNING: The premise of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is deeply based around a major plot twist from the final moments of 2010's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Rather than awkwardly talk around the events of Lords of Shadow, we have decided to address them directly in this review, beginning in the next paragraph. Mirror of Fate picks up from a major plot twist at the end of 2010's Lords of Shadow: Demon-hunting protagonist Gabriel Belmont — one of the earliest members of the Belmont clan — has been turned into Dracula, the vampire destined to become the Belmonts' eternal enemy. A demo for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, the upcoming Castlevania title on Nintendo 3DS, will be available in the Nintendo eShop Feb. 28, Nintendo announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation today. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, the upcoming Nintendo 3DS bridge between console Castlevanias, was considered for PlayStation Vita but developed for 3DS because the developers found the console more exciting, the game's producer, Dave Cox, told CVG. "The reason we did it on 3DS ... is that we considered it on Vita as a platform, but I remember the team showing me it on Vita, saying 'Look, this is the game, it looks great," and I thought "Okay, this is really cool.' Konami would "absolutely" consider making an upgraded console version of Nintendo 3DS title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, as HD assets for the game already exist, the company revealed in a recent interview with CVG. According to Konami UK's studio head Dave Cox, high-definition assets for a console version of Mirror Of Fate currently reside with developer MercurySteam. GameStop is now offering an exclusive Nintendo 3DS case for those who pre-order the upcoming 3DS title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate through their stores or website. The case, shown below, depicts playable characters Trevor, his son Simon and the now famed vampire Alucard. Also playable in the title's prologue is Dracula, not featured on the case. Mirror of Fate was first announced in May for the handheld device. The game is set 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and reveals the story of the descendants of the earlier game's protagonist Gabriel. The game is scheduled to launch on March 1, 2013.

Konami has pushed back the release of its first Castlevania for the Nintendo 3DS to next year, the company confirmed today. The Mercury Steam-developed Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is now due for an early 2013 release on 3DS. Originally, the portable spin-off to 2010's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was slated for a release this fall.
