Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 buyers who pre-order the PlayStation Network version of the game will receive a copy of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD as a bonus, publisher Konami announced today. Lords of Shadow 2 is the second follow-up to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which was released in 2010. Developer MercurySteam made a direct sequel, Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, which originally launched on Nintendo 3DS in March 2013 and was ported to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network last October. PSN pre-order customers for Lords of Shadow 2 will also get a second piece of free bonus content: a PlayStation 3 dynamic theme based on the game. Lords of Shadow 2 itself is set for release Feb. 25 on PS3, Windows PC and Xbox 360.

MercurySteam wants Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 to cause players to constantly question what constitutes as evil and leave players uncertain of the protagonist's intentions throughout the game, right through to the very end. Speaking to Polygon at a recent event in Sydney, the game's producer Dave Cox uses Tony Soprano from the television drama The Sopranos as an example. "When you think about Tony Soprano as a character, you find yourself going, 'Tony is great, I really like Tony'," Cox said. "And all of the sudden he starts viciously murdering someone. Those kind of scenes bring you back to reality and make you question the character." The Lords of Shadow games follow protagonist's Gabriel Belmont's fall into darkness and transformation into Dracula. The first game, Lords of...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD will be released on Oct. 31 on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, according to an announcement on the official Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Facebook page. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD is an upgraded port of the 3DS version, which was released in March. In February, Konami U.K. studio head Dave Cox said that an HD version of the game was developed by MercurySteam before it was optimized for the handheld. At the time, Cox said a console port may see release pending the game's performance on the 3DS. Last week, The Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection, featuring the HD version of the Nintendo 3DS game Mirror of Fate, was listed on PlayAsia for $34.90, available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It consisted of the...

SPOILER WARNING: The premise of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is deeply based around a major plot twist from the final moments of 2010's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Rather than awkwardly talk around the events of Lords of Shadow, we have decided to address them directly in this review, beginning in the next paragraph. Mirror of Fate picks up from a major plot twist at the end of 2010's Lords of Shadow: Demon-hunting protagonist Gabriel Belmont — one of the earliest members of the Belmont clan — has been turned into Dracula, the vampire destined to become the Belmonts' eternal enemy. In Mirror of Fate, multiple generations of Belmonts take up arms against their ancestor, including Simon, his father Trevor, and a mysterious third playable character. T...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate focuses partly on Simon Belmont's quest to avenge his parents' deaths, and a new trailer from publisher Konami illustrates a step on his path. The brief trailer consists primarily of an eerie cutscene in which Belmont comes across what appears to be a spectral being standing in his way. The being eventually disappears, and then we see some footage of Belmont in combat. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate launches March 5 on Nintendo 3DS. A demo will be available Feb. 28 in the 3DS eShop.
