Command and Conquer's factions and new unit types detailed

EA's upcoming real-time strategy game, Command and Conquer, will include expanded factions from previous titles and new unit types, development director Tim Morten said during a recent interview. Command and Conquer takes place 10 years after the previous installment. According to Morten, the Global Liberation Army and the European Union will take over from the US faction in the previous games. The Asia Pacific Alliance has also been expanded as a broader version of the China faction. Fans of the series can also expect to see a few familiar units. "[The game is] about a third of the same units, a third modified versions and a third brand new," Morten said. "If you were a fan for example of the Overlord Tank, we still have Overlord Tanks in this game but we've also a lot of new...

Sportsfriends developers' love of split-screen gaming influenced their collaboration

In an Ask Me Anything on Reddit today, the four indie developers behind games like QWOP and the Sportsfriends Kickstarter project discussed their shared love of local multiplayer and how that influenced their not-yet-funded collaboration. "The thought process was along the lines of: we each really care about each other's games, but we are not sure what's the best way to release them," Ramiro Corbetta, developer of Hokra, wrote. "What if we get together and do a compilation around this idea of local multiplayer games that we really care about? Yeah, good idea, let's do it! In terms of innovation, it's hard to argue against [Johann Sebastian] Joust. I mean, it won the Game Developers Choice Innovation award, beating out Portal 2 and LA Noire ... fancy stuff!" Doug Wilson, developer of...

'Command and Conquer: Generals 2' won't have a single-player campaign

Command & Conquer: Generals 2 will ditch single-player mode in favor of co-operative and competitive play, according to BioWare Victory's general manager, John Van Caneghem. Speaking to PC Gamer, Caneghem confirmed that Generals 2 will ship without a single-player mode and focus on co-operative and competitive skirmishes instead. Carneghem said that the studio "really want[s] to get back to the roots of what made Command and Conquer great". The game will be a dedicated online experience and the development team will add additional modes based on player feedback. "As a live service I think the exciting part is you can try things," he said. "You can see what the community wants, you can give it a shot, you can put it up for a weekend and see how it goes, develop towards what the fans...
