Sega announced today a promotion that pits Total War: Rome 2 players against Company of Heroes 2 players to see who can score the most points in a bid for five days of free downloadable content. Until Feb. 17, Sega will track the number of in-game victories in both games, with each victory earning points that will count towards a total tally. The community with the most points as of Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. ET will earn their chosen game some brand-new DLC that will be free to download for five days. Players can keep up-to-date with the tally here. During the promotion, both games will be discounted on Steam by 50 percent.

Company of Heroes 2 and Saints Row 4 are free to download and play on Steam this weekend, with both titles being heavily discounted during this period, Valve announced today. Until Sunday Jan. 19, 2014 at 4 p.m. ET, Steam users can download and play both titles for free. Until Monday Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. ET, both titles are also on sale, with Company of Heroes 2 being discounted by 66 percent to $13.59 and Saints Row 4 getting a 50 percent discount to $19.99. The Saints Row franchise pack, which bundles together Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row 4 and their accompanying downloadable content, is also on sale for $29.99, a 60 percent discount on its regular price.

Online retail outlet Green Man Gaming has announced a Cyber Monday sale, including BioShock Infinite for $9.99. Irrational Games' highly-rated adventure normally costs $39.99, so the offer represents a 75 percent discount. DLC episode BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea is down 25 percent at $11.24 while map-packs 'Clash in the Clouds' and 'Columbia's Finest' are down from $4.99 to $2.49. Other offers include Chivalry, down 75 percent from $34.99 to $17.49; Company of Heroes 2 down 33 percent to $26.79 and Europa Universalis down 50 percent to $19.99.

The Langres map, one of the more popular multiplayer maps from Company of Heroes, has been added to Company of Heroes 2, developer Relic Entertainment announced today. The classic map, which has been given a "suitable Eastern Front twist" according to a press statement, will be available later today as part of a free update. The Langres map was created for Company of Heroes as part of a map design competition held by Relic. Since the map's release in 2008, Langres has been the battleground for more than 3.2 million multiplayer matches, racking up about 1.2 million hours of combat. Sega will bring games starring Mickey Mouse, Sonic the Hedgehog and soldiers old and new to E3 2013, according to a post on the Sega Blog. Games on the show floor will include Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Windows PC), Relic Entertainment's Company of Heroes 2 (Windows), Sonic Lost World (Wii U, Nintendo 3DS) and The Creative Assembly's Total War: Rome 2 (Windows). Double Fine Productions' The Cave, which was released last year, will also be on-hand. E3 2013 will run June 11-13, and Polygon will be there to bring you all the news. Jack Sorensen, a 20-year veteran of the video game industry and former executive vice president of all studios worldwide at THQ, has been appointed president of Saban Brands' mobile social games division, The Playforge, the company announced. At THQ, Sorensen oversaw numerous franchises including Saints Row, WWE Smackdown and Company of Heroes. Prior to his seven years at THQ, Sorensen served as president of LucasArts from 1991 to 2000, where he managed brands such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Company of Heroes will migrate to Valve's Steamworks service on May 7, as the original servers hosted by middleware company Quazal will be shut down, developer Relic Entertainment announced today on the game's forums. Players are advised to switch over to the new Steamworks version before the migration, as all previously existing versions of the game will cease working. The Steam build is available for download now, and those who already own Company of Heroes on Steam should have a new downloadable entry in their library titled "Company of Heroes (New Steam Version)."
