Regular Dance Central 3 DLC releases ending this month

Dance Central 3's regular schedule of downloadable dance routines will end this month, developer Harmonix announced today. "This month will be the last DLC for Dance Central 3 for the near future," the company said. Last month, Harmonix announced it would end the weekly schedule of Rock Band DLC song releases on April 2. The studio cited the same reason for the end of Dance Central 3 updates as it did for Rock Band: Harmonix is "[moving] forward with several new titles currently in development," and "the talented developers who make [Dance Central] content are needed on other projects." Harmonix pointed out that between the importation of Dance Central and Dance Central 2 routines and all the downloadable songs the company has released, the Dance Central library now contains more...

Shimmy to 'Call Me Maybe' in Dance Central 3 on Dec. 4

"Call Me Maybe," Carly Rae Jepsen's ubiquitous earworm of a pop song, will be available to download in Dance Central 3 tomorrow, Dec. 4, for 240 Microsoft Points ($3), Harmonix announced today. The studio first announced back in October that the song would be available at some point. Choreographed by Spikey Soria, the "Call Me Maybe" routine is one of the toughest in the game — its difficulty is rated as "Off The Hook." Harmonix also announced that anyone who buys Dance Central 3 at GameStop between today, Dec. 3, and Dec. 16 will receive a voucher good for a free download of "Call Me Maybe." "Gangnam Style," the other candidate for biggest song of 2012, made its way to Dance Central 3 last week. Check out our feature on how Harmonix put that song in the game.

Making Gangnam

This deep connection to music and how it is made is part of the secret sauce of Harmonix. The name, in fact, says everything. It's not Harmonix Studios or Harmonix Games — it's Harmonix Music Systems. As one producer says, it could be a speaker store. And in a way, it is. Harmonix creates technology that allows people to enjoy music in new and different ways. Only it doesn't deal in woofers and tweeters, they deal in games. Digital media that allows listeners to step into the experience and become part of the song. Its latest, Dance Central 3, uses the Xbox Kinect technology to allow gamers to dance, controller-free, learning dance routines step-by-step with the help of the in-game characters and dance coach Usher. The game offers over 200 dance hits and...
