Sony Online Entertainment is set to release the seventh DLC Pack for superhero-centric MMO DC Universe Online on May 14, the studio announced. Origin Crisis features the new Quantum power set that gives players new abilities that manipulate time and space. Alternate versions of Gotham City and Metropolis are also featured in the pack in the form of new player operations, while two new raids are also offered. While the pack won't officially be released until next week, users with Legendary Memberships can access Origin Crisis early starting today. Legendary Membership is a monthly subscription of $14.99; DC Universe Online can, however, be played for free with limited features.

Tickets are now available for SOE Live 2013, Sony Online Entertainment's annual community fan event, according to a press release from the company. Tickets for the event, which will be held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas from Aug. 1-4, are available through the SOE Live website. Early registration is available through May 22, offering discounted tickets at $39 (regularly $49) for Friday and Saturday passes, $99 for an evening pass and $129 (regularly $149) for an all-access pass. According to Sony, rooms are available for $79 on weeknights and $129 on weekends. Games on hand will include DC Universe Online, Dragon's Prophet, EverQuest, EverQuest 2, Free Realms, PlanetSide 2, PoxNora, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Legends of Norrath and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes....

DC Universe Online, Sony Online Entertainment's comic-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, will receive its seventh downloadable content pack, Origin Crisis, in May. Origin Crisis will take place during a time when supervillain Brainiac has been defeated, but war continues. Speaking via press release, creative director Jens Andersen said that the DLC will give players the chance to explore the twists of different "what if" scenarios. "In this DLC, players will travel through time to play out alternate histories and futures," Andersen said. "What would happen to Metropolis if Superman worked for Lex Luthor? Sony Online Entertainment's annual community fan event, SOE Live 2013, will take place at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on Aug. 1 to Aug. 4, 2013, the company announced today. Attendees will have the opportunity to check out EverQuest Next, the upcoming title in the EverQuest franchise. Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley defended the free-to-play model but said that Zynga's implementation has done a "terrible disservice" to Western audiences, according to an interview with PC Gamer. Zynga is to blame for "the reputation that [the free-to-play model] got from early in its life, especially in terms of social games," Smedley said. "I think Zynga has done free-to-play a terrible disservice because many of their releases are monetisation products — not games," Smedley said. "The truth is that now there are loads of really great free-to-play games, including ours, and I think PlanetSide is now a part of the hardcore community's free-to-play library." PlanetSide 2, Sony Online Entertainment's just-launched MMO first-person shooter, will allow players to move Station Cash purchases between characters on the same account, the game's creative director, Matt Higby, told Massively. According to Higby, player feedback convinced the developer to add the feature, but Sony Online Entertainment will have to test it before adding it to the game. DC Universe Online, the MMO from developer Sony Online Entertainment supersaturated with superheros from the DC Comics universe, received a new DLC pack today, "Hand of Fate." Set primarily in Gotham City and Metropolis, the DLC tasks superheroes with defeating "a disruptive opposing force," according to the DC Universe Online website. It includes six new episodes — three each for Heroic and Villainous superheroes — over 60 side missions, a multiplayer battle mode called "Operations," and new utility belt attachments to expand characters' loadouts. SOE Live tournament line-up announced

SOE Live, Sony Online Entertainment's annual fan event, has announced its tournament line-up for DC Universe Online, EverQuest 1 & 2, and PlanetSide 2. Attendees will compete in various team competitions that test agility, knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and cooperation. DC Universe Online, EverQuest, and EverQuest 2 will all feature Live Quest tournaments with money prizes; specific award amounts for each are listed on the site. Other tournaments include PvP, races, and Boot Camp. SOE Live will take place at Bally's in Las Vegas from October 18th through the 21st. Creative director Jens Andersen and systems designer David Stricker explain the new Legends PvP characters, Doctor Fate and Felix Faust, the game's first sorcerers. Nexon bringing its free-to-play game catalog to Steam

Nexon America is bringing three of its free-to-play video games – Vindictus, Combat Arms and Dungeon Fighter Online – to Steam this month, the company announced today. The additions are part of the growing presence of free-to-play games on Valve's digital distribution service, which now boasts more than 30 titles.
