Fountains of the stuff gush and spray across this trailer, which is designed to show the third-person shooter's distinctive art style, its basic story and, well, its propensity for visual extravagance. Due to be released on Nov. 10 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC, the Deep Silver melee-and-blast game seeks to tell the story of Dead Island's zombie-outbreak origins. Escape Dead Island is set after the events of the original Dead Island. The player's character arrives on the island weeks after the initial virus outbreak that turned everyone into zombies. He and his friends are tasked with finding out what happened.

There's a lot you can do with an island full of zombies. Deep Silver has used the setting for its survival horror action games, Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide, and it's upcoming Dead Island 2, which will launch in 2015. It has used it for its multiplayer online battle arena game, Dead Island Epidemic. Now the same tropical island swarming with the undead is playing host to Escape Dead Island, a survival game that focuses on stealth and mystery. Developed by Swedish studio Fatshark, which has worked on titles like War of the Roses, Lead and Gold and Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2, Escape Dead Island is the Dead Island series' foray into a story-driven game. Where previous Dead Island titles focused on the thrill of fearlessly hacking and slashing through hordes of zombies, Escape Dead...

Hellraid: The Escape will launch on advanced iOS devices on July 10, according to developer Shortbreak Studios. The first-person puzzle adventure is set in the same universe as Techland's Hellraid, a fantasy combat game that was originally a mod for zombie-shooter Dead Island (see video below). Shortbreak said today that Hellraid: The Escape will only be available for iOS devices that are as new as iPad 2, iPhone 4S, and iPod Touch 5th Generation. "We've put a lot of effort into making the game a real treat for your eyes," offered a developer voice-over to today's promotional trailer. "We used the full potential of the Unreal Engine to achieve visual quality previously known only on PCs and consoles."

Dead Island (regularly $19.99 on Xbox 360 Games on Demand) will be free from Feb. 1-15. Toy Soldiers: Cold War is Signal Studios' 2011 sequel to its Xbox Live Arcade hit from 2010, Toy Soldiers. Both are action strategy titles; Cold War takes place in the 1980s and pits the U.S. and the former Soviet Union against each other. Cold War (reg. $14.99) will be free from Feb. 16-28. M...

A video produced by Machinima recreates the instantly-iconic Dead Island trailer using real actors. The original trailer made media waves right away following its 2011 debut, as it told a poignant human tale in innovative non-chronological order. The trailer's plot, about a young girl on vacation with her parents where they're attacked by zombies, unraveled through two different timelines: One in normal forward-moving time with the girl fleeing from the undead hordes, and one in reverse showing her ultimate fate and how she got there. This live-action version, directed by BJ McDonnell, is a shot-for-shot remake of that trailer down to the choreography and characters' outfits. As you might imagine, the violence of the digital version of the trailer is somewhat harder to watch with...
