6 CommentsDeadpool: How High Moon Studios managed the Merc with a Mouth.
By Tracey Lien on May 08, 2013 05.08.13
Marvel's anti-hero, Deadpool, could have made for an irritating video game protagonist, but developer High Moon Studios avoided this by "committing fully to the character," according senior creative director Dave Cravens. In an interview with Polygon, Cravens said the character could have potentially come across as irritating because of all his unique traits: he breaks the fourth wall and talks to the player, he hears voices and has conversations with them, he's crude and indulges in fart jokes and, as his nickname "The Merc with a Mouth" suggests, he never stops talking. But by embracing Deadpool's unapologetic nature, Cravens believes High Moon's Deadpool game does the character justice in the way Marvel's comics intended. "I think it's a matter of if you're going to jump into the...

9 CommentsMortal Kombat, Skulls of the Shogun, Strider and more spotted in Steam database
By Michael McWhertor on Mar 18, 2013 03.18.13
Apparent listings cultivated from Steam's Content Description Record database show a handful of unannounced titles and PC ports bound for Steam, including versions of Mortal Kombat, Skulls of the Shogun and Pinball FX 2. While the Steam CDR database manages to keep titles of unannounced titles well-hidden (with names like "ValveTestApp217140"), achievement data and images scraped from Steam and SteamDB — unearthed by a handful of NeoGAF forum members — reveals content for certain Steam games not currently listed for Valve's platform: Deadpool, Mortal Kombat, and Skulls of the Shogun. Other listings point to more speculative but surprising releases, including possible listings for The King of Fighters XIII, Castle of Illusion and Strider. Art for a rumored Strider game was d...

Deadpool throws comedy spaghetti at the wall, sees what sticks
By Griffin McElroy on Aug 17, 2012 08.17.12
It doesn't hone in on a specific comedy styling, per se. All of the comedy that there is — the entire gamut — is delivered in constant salvos, with little pause in between. From the very start menu, the titular, scarlet-clad hitman cracks wise, knocking on the glass of the television to inquire if there are any women playing. Upon starting the game, Deadpool boards an invisible elevator and, as he sinks off the screen, sticks a single thumbs up in the air as the Terminator theme plays. From there, we're informed of his hit: media mogul Chance White, whose new reality television program, Jump the Shark, resulted in the death of its first celebrity contestant, who was ... eaten by a shark. Now, his sister wants revenge, and you're her instrument. The first thing Deadpool does when...

By Emily Gera on Jul 20, 2012 07.20.12
The upcoming Deadpool game in development by High Moon Studios will be written by the comic series' current author, Daniel Way, it was revealed in a press release penned by Deadpool himself. "We weren't actually planning on making a Deadpool game," the head of High Moon Studios, Peter Della Penna, joked in a statement. "But, Deadpool came by the studio one day, said he was taking over, and that if I didn't hire Marvel writer Daniel Way pronto and make the most amazing Deadpool video game, he'd break both of our arms and beat us to death with them. I have kids, so we're making the game." Daniel Way is also known for his work on the comic Wolverine: Origins and Hit-Monkey, the latter of which is being adapted into a video game by High Moon Studios and Activision, it was announced earlier...
