By John Funk on Apr 16, 2013 04.16.13
A new trailer out for Trion Worlds' near-future MMO Defiance introduces us to the mysterious alien Arks and the player characters who want to plunder them. The alien Votans came to Earth to settle, believing it to be uninhabited, but were met with mistrust and hostility from the humans already living here. Fighting broke out, but the worst of the destruction accompanied the fall of the Votans' Ark ships. The fall of the Arks led to terraforming of the Earth's surface, transforming it into a hostile environment. However, the Arks were full of advanced Votan technology, and the goal of the player Ark Hunters is to investigate the wrecked hulks for alien riches. By Samit Sarkar on Mar 01, 2013 03.01.13
One of the many enemy groups in Defiance is the Ninety-Niners, the focus of a new video released today by publisher Trion Worlds. The Ninety-Niners are "crazed cyborgs," miners who gave up their humanity to augment their bodies in ways that would help them scour the Earth for minerals and other precious commodities. When they were human, they ran the Muir Union Mining Company. Their cybernetic enhancements give them superhuman strength, and they're fiercely territorial beings — so be careful when you're traipsing through Ninety-Niner country. Defiance, a first-person shooter MMO that is tied into a Syfy television series of the same name, launches April 2 on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, two weeks before the series premiere.
