Deus Ex Machina creator developing reimagining, Sir Christopher Lee onboard

Creator of Deus Ex Machina, Mel Croucher, is developing a reimagining of the original game titled Deus Ex Machina 2, and is rallying funds and fan feedback to polish the release. Pre-release versions of Deus Ex Machina 2 have already been developed for Windows PC and Mac using Unity. Amongst other things, the funding campaign is seeking funds to polish the gameplay and music scoring, and complete prototypes for iOS and Android versions. The project also aims to raise enough funds to develop the Deus Ex Machina 2 The Director's Cut for the Oculus Rift, and start filming a documentary based on the development of the original game and the reimagining, titled Deus Ex Machina: The Movie. Deus Ex design documents reveal the game that never was

Early design documents for the original Deus Ex reveal an X-Files influenced game that never came to be, according to a recent report from Eurogamer. This early iteration of the project, then called Majestic Revelations, is described in its original design document as a "near future science fiction" game, which featured "elements of conspiracy theory and X-File weirdness." The "RPG adventure" game was first slated for a holiday release in 1998; However, its eventual release as Deus Ex didn't happen until mid-2000. Early scripts feature the familiar JC Denton, who would later appear in the final version of the game. Other aspects of the title changed, however. Fighting Fantasy creator and Eidos founder made Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire

The creator of the Fighting Fantasy choose-your-own-adventure series and life president of Eidos, Ian Livingstone, has been honored by being made Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE). The Order of the British Empire recognizes "distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with charitable and welfare organizations of all kinds." Livingstone is being recognized for his contribution to technology and the arts for founding Eidos Interactive (the studio behind Tomb Raider and Deus Ex), creating the Fighting Fantasy series, and co-authoring a report highlighting the "poor quality of computer teaching" in U.K. schools, which led to an overhaul of information and technology classes in England. Deus Ex writer creates software to help novices make games

Sheldon Pacotti, writer of Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War, released a series of videos yesterday that walk viewers through Game Blocks, a program he created to help novice game writers plan and execute their projects. Pacotti created the software to use in a course he teaches at the University of Texas at Austin called "Writing and Narrative Design for Video Games." In the workshop, students study "premise, character development, story structure and the creation of multi-level worlds." Game Blocks is available as an open source, free download from New Life Interactive's website, which also contains links to many in-depth tutorials.
